Chiefs Add Justyn Ross to Active Roster

On Monday, the Kansas City Chiefs placed wide receiver Skyy Moore on injured reserve. Hidden in the daily transaction report, Justyn Ross has been added to the Chiefs 53-man roster.

When Head Coach Andy Reid revealed Sunday, after the Chiefs defeated the New England Patriots 27-17, that wide receiver Skyy Moore hurt his knee. It wasn’t a stretch; he would be placed on injured reserve with just three games remaining in the regular season.

With that news, the Chiefs have filled the vacant roster spot with Justyn Ross. After being placed on the NFL Commisioner’s Exempt list, Ross was suspended for six games. However, five weeks of that suspension was back-dated to include his house arrest away from the NFL.

The Moore injury is fortuitous for Ross, and if Reid thinks he can help the Chiefs down the stretch, he may play Monday against the Las Vegas Raiders.

However, Reid made it clear today that Ritchie James would get more snaps, and his workload should increase with Moore’s absence.

Ross is a wild card for the Chiefs. In training camp and during much of the preseason, he played very well for Kansas City. It remains to be seen how much of a chance Reid will give Ross, but it’s clear, based on snap counts from Sunday, that Rashee Rice, Justin Watson, Noah Gray, and Kadarius Toney are getting the majority of the snaps.

Toney has struggled, but the Chiefs appear to give him all the chances to succeed. However, if Ross is ready to resume action on the field, some of Toney’s snaps could be reduced.
