With Nick Bolton and Jaylen Watson battling injuries, the Kansas City Chiefs defense could take a hit against the New York Jets on Sunday Night. Both players are key to the teams’ resurgence defensively and will sit out this game.
The Kansas City Chiefs released their final injury report on Friday and both Linebacker, Nick Bolton and Cornerback, Jaylen Watson will sit out Sunday Night’s Prime Time game in New York against the Jets.
However, it does appear that All-Pro Chris Jones will be available for the game. Though he was limited on Friday, it’s likely he will play a similar number of snaps against the Jets as he did against the Bears.
After recording a sack in the first half against the Chicago Bears, Head Coach Andy Reid sat Chris Jones down for the second half. We thought because of the 34-0 halftime score this was simply a measure to rest their star defender. However, that was not the case. On Wednesday, Reid disclosed he was dealing with a groin issue.
Linebacker, Nick Bolton missed the Bears game, but the good news about missing his second straight game, Drew Tranquill did an outstanding job filling in for Bolton. He led the Chiefs with eight tackles and called all the defensive plays.
Jaylen Watson hurt his shoulder in practice on Wednesday, so that means Joshua Williams, L’Jarius Snead, and Trent McDuffie, PFF’s top-rated cornerback, will fill the void for Watson. Further, Nic Jones was a full participant in practice this week, and he could make his NFL debut on Sunday.
If that’s the case, the Chiefs secondary faces a Jets offense that isn’t good. Quarterback, Zach Wilson is bearing the brunt of a restless fan base, and in fighting by his defensive teammates to their head Coach, Robert Saleh as to why Wilson continues to be the Jets starter, just hasn’t died down. Even Hall of Fame and Super Bowl III Champion, Joe Namath said he’d seen enough of Wilson as the Jets starter.
In other injury news, Reid said that everyone else on the injury was a full participant in practice except for Wide Receiver, Kadarius Toney who is battling a toe injury. His status was the same last week, and if he plays, Reid will likely limit his snaps.
