Mansoor Delane Injury Update

The Kansas City Chiefs received good news Wednesday morning when Head Coach Andy Reid announced that rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane will practice, and he could return to the starting lineup Sunday night when the Chiefs host the Indianapolis Colts.

In his first defensive snap, the Kansas City Chiefs first-round pick, Mansoor Delane, made an immediate impact against the Denver Broncos Monday night. He created tremendous field position for ht offense when he intercepted a pass from Quarterback Bo Nix. On the play, he faced the quarterback and cut in front of the intended target.

However, on the play, he fell on the same shoulder he injured in Mini-Camp. This time, it was not a fracture, as before. An X-ray and MRI showed no breaks or fractures. Head Coach Andy Reid indicated that there’s a good chance his young cornerback will play Sunday night.

This is great news for the Chiefs, who did a tremendous job in the defensive secondary without Delane on the field. Veterans L’Jarius Sneed and Kristen Fulton were outstanding at shutting down the Broncos’ passing attack.

The best news about the secondary room is that Nohl Williams played at the same level that saw him emerge as one of the Chiefs’ best cornerbacks last season.

Thus far, no Sophomore slump for the Chiefs’ 2025 draft pick.

As a precaution, the Chiefs added cornerback Melvin Smith, Jr. to the practice squad in case Mansoor can’t go Sunday. Smith spent the entire off-season and summer with Kansas City before he was cut when the Chiefs finalized their 53-man roster.
