After their thrilling 23-20 overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts, the Kansas City Chiefs are set to sign former Houston Texans Running Back, Damien Pierce.

When the Kansas City Chiefs activated Clyde Edwards-Helaire over Elijah Mitchell for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, his future might be up in the air. With Isiah Pacheco unable to play because of his knee injury, the Chiefs will sign former Houston Texans Running Back Damien Pierce to their practice squad.
Per Jordan Schultz @Schultzreport, Pierce is expected to take his physical on Monday morning. It’s a mystery why he was released on Thursday, but the AFC South team felt they had enough quality backs.

The 25-year old will start on the practice squad. Kansas City get some much needed help for the RB room.

On Sunday versus the Colts, veteran Kareem Hunt carried the load, rushing for 104 yards on 30 carries. The Chiefs could use him as their featured back for the remainder of the season. Isiah Pacheco was on track to return, but images from practice showed he was wearing a full knee brace.
It’s not known if Pacheco had surgery on that knee, but the addition of Pierce gives the Chiefs some much-needed speed for the offense. Hunt was a force on Sunday, but I can’t see him getting thirty carries every game.
CEH has been ineffective, and the Chiefs don’t trust seventh-round pick Brashard Smith just yet, so adding a former 1,000-yard rusher to the mix can only help KC’s run game. They ran all over the Colts Sunday, but Hunt isn’t the game breaker he once was years ago.
Still, he’s done a terrific job for the Chiefs, and Pierce could become a complement to Hunt. Now, Kansas City can afford to put Pacheco on Injured Reserve and give him the time he needs to recover.
It’s doubtful Pierce will be active on Thursday when the Chiefs face the Dallas Cowboys, but he could be active a week later when Kansas City hosts his old team, the Houston Texans.
