Why the Chiefs Didn’t Get Breece Hall

There is a lot of angst right now regarding the fact that the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t make a deal at the NFL trade deadline. It’s very easy to be upset and mad at General Manager, Brett Veach, but it always takes two to strike a deal, and it would appear teams were unwilling to help the Chiefs.

The current image has no alternative text. The file name is: Breece-Hall.jpg

For the disappointed Brett Veach crowd, let me remind you the man has seven consecutive AFC Championship games under his belt, five Super Bowl appearances, and three Lombardi Trophies.

The failure to add a defensive line starter and a speed running back were obvious moves to make, but the only team interested in talking to the Chiefs was the New York Jets. Though Veach tried to swing deals, he could not find a trade partner willing to help Kansas City.

This is the price the Chiefs will continue to pay until they are no longer Super Bowl relevant. So, fans better get used to it, because even though Kansas City has a 5-4 record heading into their Bye Week, it doesn’t mean they aren’t the favorite to win Super Bowl LX.

Sure, we all wanted Breece Hall to wear a Chiefs uniform, but the Jets held firm at their demand for better compensation. Veach wasn’t willing to part with anything but a fourth-round pick for a guy that was a rental.

However, per sources the reported demand by the Jets of a third round pick, changed after the two deals they did earlier in the day. Feeling their oats, the Jets wanted the Chiefs 2026 2nd round pick and a third day pick in 2027. Kansas City balked and that was the right move.

Granted, it would have been worth the three, but I think that says more about the Jets’ lack of leadership at the top of their organization. Hall requested a trade, his agent pushed the Jets to accept the Chiefs offer, but for a team with a 1-7 record, this direction-less franchise disrespected one of their star players.

The Jets did make two big trades. First, sending All Pro Cornerback, Sauce Gardner to the Indianpolis Colts. Then a few hours later, they traded All Pro Defenive Tackle, Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys.

In making those deal, they told the NFL they were having a fire sale, but that wasn’t the case as they passed on the Chiefs offer to hold onto one unhappy Jet.

Yes, Hall would have cured the Chiefs running back woes, and brought the first home run threat since Jamaal Charles.

So, now it’s back to running back by committe and if the offensive line can return to form, this offense can score enough points to win any game they play this season.

In all the losses, the common denominator has been the offensive line, and the pressure they have allowed on Mahomes. Yes, a break away runner would help, but that’s not a guarantee.

So, be upset if you want at Veach, but it’s a foolish road to travel. He built a three time Super Bowl Champion, and that’s far better than ANY other General Manager in the NFL today.
