After the New York Jets released Tackle Esa Pole on Thursday, it didn’t take long for him to re-sign with the Kansas City Chiefs. Once he cleared waivers on Friday, Chiefs Blitz learned he was going to join the team’s practice squad.

When the Kansas City Chiefs put forth their 53-man roster, they rolled the dice on waiving former Washington State Tackle Esa Pole. Even though he had a strong pre-season, the team felt they needed to carry an extra wide receiver, so they cut Pole.
However, the New York Jets claimed him and placed him on their roster, thus ending Pole’s short career with the Chiefs. On Thursday, the Jets abruptly cut him, and after clearing waivers, he’ll be the latest addition to the team’s practice squad.

Pole has the potential to compete for a starting job next season at right tackle. Should the team part ways with Jawaan Taylor, he could be the next man up. With Josh Simmons returning in the next two weeks, Pole also adds insurance to the offensive line should an injury occur.
Speaking of Simmons, Nate Taylor of ESPN confirmed what we mentioned on the ChiefsBlitz Podcast earlier today, that the Chiefs’ 2025 first-round pick will return to the team at some point over the next week or two.
Simmons was dealing with a family issue in San Diego, but he has been communicating with the team, and both appear optimistic about his return and his chance to get back on the field. He probably won’t be ready until the Chiefs face the Broncos in Denver, so that gives him the BYE week to get back into shape and up to speed with the offense.
