The Kansas City Chiefs were aiming to find another veteran wide receiver. After the first couple of waves of free agency, they kept a key contributor for the upcoming season.

The Kansas City Chiefs re-signed Hollywood Brown for 2025 and brought back another veteran receiver today. After Brown’s injury last season, JuJu Smith-Schuster was added to the roster after he was cut from the New England Patriots last August.
On Saturday, Jordan Schultz was the first to break the news that Smith-Schuster will return to the Chiefs on a one-year deal next season. Last year, JuJu was a steady presence in the offense. Though his catches and touchdowns were some of the lowest in his career, he made a significant impact by running routes to free other receivers.

Further, he’s an outstanding blocking receiver and a steady hand in helping the Chief’s younger wideouts, Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy. In some aspects he acts as an extra tight end, opening up space for Travis Kelce.
Heading into 2025, the Chiefs receivers room appears to be set. Though Rice is still facing a suspension, and even though no charges were filed against Xavier Worthy, some legal issues could force the NFL to take a look at the case.

I applaud the Chiefs for retaining their veterans, but I would not be surprised if they drafted one in April. The upcoming NFL Draft is stacked with great pass catchers, and Kansas City has routinely added to the receiver room in the draft process.
Still, JuJu had other options, per reports, and his familiarity with the Chiefs offense, and their failure to becong three-peat champions, we can see why he signed to play his third season in Kansas City.
Kansas City has done a great job retaining some of their own free agents and adding needs once the market opened on Monday. With over twenty internal free agents, Kansas City has to fill out its roster.
