The Kansas City Chiefs were searching for a new backup quarterback for Patrick Mahomes. On Thursday, the team raided the Raiders by signing their starting quarterback.

With Carson Wentz, a free agent, the Kansas City Chiefs searched for another veteran backup for their three-time Super Bowl Champion quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. They found that player from a division rival.
Gardner Minshew has bounced around the NFL since he debuted with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ironically, his debut came against the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019. The journeyman quarterback was the Las Vegas Raiders starter until he fractured his collarbone in a week 12 game against the Denver Broncos.

The Raiders released him Wednesday with an injury designation, so he must pass a physical in Kansas City. He is expected to be in town this weekend.
Head coach Andy Reid has played roulette with his backup quarterbacks. Since Chad Henne retired, Kansas City has changed back-ups this season. Minshew is still relatively young; this will be his seventh season in the NFL.
His best year was in 2023 as the Indianapolis Colts. He led them to a 9-8 record and a chance for a wild card spot, but they lost the regular season finale. Still, he was solid in Jacksonville, and at 28 years old, he should be a solid backup for Mahomes.
