In the wake of the news that Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Jody Fortston is headed to injured reserve, the team added to its strength on Monday by trading for the New England Patriots’ second-round pick in 2020. So, who did they get?
Great teams learn two things at the trade deadline. If you have a weakness, you try to land a player who can help, as the team did in acquiring DeAndre Hopkins last week. The other rule of thumb you add to your strength. The Chiefs did just that, adding former New England Patriots Edge Rusher Josh Uche for a 2026 late-round pick.
The Michigan Wolverine was drafted by the Patriots back in 2020. He has 20.5 career sacks and can be effective behind the line of scrimmage. He’s had a slow start this season, but the pending 2025 free agent could take the reps of Mike Danna, who is battling injury.
His best season in the NFL was 2022, when he had 11.5 sacks and led the Patriot’s defense. His job in Kansas City is to be a situational pass rusher who can complement George Karlaftis and, eventually, Charles Omenihu, who will return to the Chiefs next month.
The Chiefs placed Tight End Jody Fortson on injured reserve to make room for this move. He suffered a severe knee injury on Sunday and will miss the remainder of the NFL season.
