Chiefs Extend Travis Kelce Through the 2027 Season

The Kansas City Chiefs keep spending money. One of the most prominent question marks at the end of the year was how long Tight End Travis Kelce would keep playing football. Now we know, as the team has made him the highest-paid tight end in the show.

Travis Kelce has made it clear he wanted to play his entire career in Kansas City. On Monday, the Chiefs made that happen by extending his contract through the 2028 season. Though the extension’s dollar amount or terms are unknown, Bleacher Report indicated it is $34M million over the extension term; it’s clear Kelce will become the highest-paid tight end in NFL history.

Though Kelce didn’t break the 1,000-yard barrier his year, ending his seven-year NFL record, he’s still one of the best tight ends in the game today. At 34, he shows no signs of ending his career anytime soon. The new deal keeps him under contract with the Chiefs until age 38.

Kelce and the rest of the offense struggled for most of the 2023 season, but when the playoffs arrived, along with his teammates, he was all nails that ended with the Chiefs second consecutive Super Bowl Title. He’s been considered the best tight end in football for years, and the Chiefs agree.

Over the past week, Kansas City Chiefs Chairman Clark Hunt has given Andy Reid, Mark Donovan, and Brett Veach raises through 2029, making them the highest-paid at their respective positions.

It’s clear the Chiefs are serious about becoming the best football team of all time. The coaching staff and players have the continuity to do this, and the ownership is willing to pay for it.
