Game Day Primer: Five Reasons the Chiefs Will Defeat Ravens

The Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens will soon face off in the AFC Championship game. The winner gets invited to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is a game that will define either Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson. They aren’t the only story, but here are five reasons the Chiefs will be headed to Sin City!

First: Patrick Mahomes is the best player in the NFL. It’s not even close, and to think any different is foolish. He’s 13-3 in the postseason, and with two more wins (Sunday at Baltimore and the Super Bowl in Las Vegas), only Tom Brady is his peer. That’s not lost on Mahomes because he’s about Super Bowl Legacies and just one win away from returning to the big game.

Second: Since Mahomes lost to Joe Burrow in the postseason two years ago at Arrowhead, he’s defeated every quarterback he’s faced in the playoffs. Including quarterbacks, NFL experts stated emphatically at one point was an MVP candidate and better than Mahomes. He has defeated Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts in 2022, Tua Tagovailoa, and Josh Allen this postseason. Over the last two seasons, Lamar Jackson defeated C.J. Stroud in the playoffs.

Third: Defensive End Chris Jones can earn a $1M bonus on Sunday with a win in the AFC Championship game. Jones was a one-man wrecking crew in the season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers, needing a single sack to cash in on another $1M incentive. He is the most talented defensive player in this game, and with a Super Bowl title and a cash incentive on the line, Jones will unleash a mighty fury on Jackson.

Fourth: Head Coach Andy Reid is at his best in the postseason. It might not always be pretty, and you will sometimes scratch your head with his play calls, but he always has his team prepared to play in the big moments. Like Mahomes, he cares about legacy, and Reid is a hall-of-fame coach who can join some impressive company with another Super Bowl win on his resume. Still, he knows how to work with his players, prepare them for the challenge, and firmly push their buttons to be the best in the most significant moments.

Fifth: The Chiefs have that Championship DNA that defines sports legacies. Kansas City enters this game with a chance to win three of the last six Super Bowls. They are playing in their sixth straight AFC Championship game. Over that span, they’ve taken the best shots from 31 other NFL teams and, in most cases, prevailed. They find a way to win close games. They understand the significance of every snap and the importance of making the big play at the right time in the game.

The Chiefs are elite; they are the best overall team in the NFL from top to bottom. That doesn’t mean they have the best players, but they understand their roles and what it takes to be a championship football team. Based on the comments from Ravens players this week, they have nothing but a Brawlers mentality. Yes, they are talented, but they’re not the Chiefs.

Lastly: Win this one for Norma Hunt!
